Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist University women's cross country team began their 2016 season Saturday morning at the Fayette Golf Course. The Eagles claimed victory on Saturday in the annual Eagle Invitational, finishing first out of three teams.
"The women did great today," said CMU Director of Cross Country Mark Nelson. "We were missing one of our top runners today and we still got the win. I am thrilled about our victory today with the soft ground and humid air conditions."
The Eagles competed Saturday against Stephens College and Westminster College. As a team, CMU won the Eagle Invitational, with a total time of 1:18:30.73. Westminster finished in second place, and Stephens College finished in third place.
Individually, Caitlyn Hammons won the race. Hammons ran the race as an independent from the Mizzou Running Club. Allyson Ng (SR/Kansas City, Mo.) led the charge for the Eagles, finishing in third place with a total time of 15:11.71.
Veronica Hancock (JR/Bolivar, Mo.), Megan Greener (SR/Kansas City, Mo.), and Shannon Feurt (JR/Garden City, Mo.) finished in 5th, 6th, and 8th place respectively for CMU.
Abby Cross finished just outside the Top-10 in 11th place, while Rachel Howieson (SR/Sedalia, Mo.) and Emily Angell (FR/Centralia, Mo.) finished in 21st and 23rd place.
The Eagles' are off next weekend, before returning to action on Saturday September 10th at 10am, when they host the annual Gary Stoner Invite at the Fayette Golf Course.
