Fayette, Mo. – The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced their weekly player of the week awards, with junior Sarah Kurpjuweit (JR/Humansville, Mo.) earning The Heart's Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week award, following her 13th place finish at the Southern Stampede Cross Country Invitational this past weekend at Missouri Southern State University.
"Sarah had a great race this weekend, with a personal best time on a wet and muddy course," said CMU Director of Cross Country Mark Nelson. "Her time has also moved her onto our CMU All-Time Top 25 list for Cross Country. I think she is on her way to what I think will be a breakout season for her."
Sarah Kurpjuweit and the Eagles took part this past Saturday in the Southern Stampede Cross Country Invitational in Joplin, Missouri, that featured 149 total participants. Sarah finished the 5K race in 13th place, with a total time of 19 minutes and 48 seconds. The Humansville, Missouri native, led the Eagles to a fifth place team finish, out of 17 schools.
The Eagles have a few weeks now to prepare for the Midwest Cross Country Invitational, hosted by Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri on the morning of October 8th.
