Kansas City, Mo. – The Central Methodist University women's cross country team ran in the Midwest XC Invitational, hosted by Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday morning. CMU finished in second place out of six schools.
"We took a step in the right direction today, with all of our top five finishing in the Top- 20," said CMU Director of Cross Country Mark Nelson. "We had one of our top girls out with a minor injury today, so I am excited to see what we can do when they are all together in two weeks."
Central Methodist had a strong showing Saturday in Kansas City. The course featured sharp turns a lot of hills. Senior Allyson Ng (SR/Kansas City, Mo.) led the Eagles, with a second place finish individually. Ng finished with a final time of 19:19.35; setting a new personal record by 13 seconds. Megan Greener (SR/Kansas City, Mo.) finished in 11th place, with a time of 20:02.87, while Sarah Kurpjuweit (JR/Humansville, Mo.) finished in 13th place with a time of 20:09.35. Rounding out the Top-20 for CMU, was Veronica Hancock (JR/Bolivar, Mo.) in 18th place, and Abigail Cross (SO/Osborn, Mo.) in 20th place.
As a team, Central finished in second place, behind only MidAmerica Nazarene University.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday October, 22nd in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for the NAIA Seminole Valley Invite.
