FAYETTE, Mo. – Lisa Sauter (SO/Schefflenz, Germany) took home her first college victory on Saturday, winning the Eagle Invite 5K by finishing in 19:59.
She won by 57 seconds. Abigail Cross finished in third place with a time of 22:00.
"I'm encouraged by what I saw in both of their races," said Coach Mark Nelson. "We know when we're at full strength, [Abby's] going to be somewhere between our third and fourth runner, and if she's running that strong in that position, we're going to be a really strong team."
The Eagles ran shorthanded, as only three athletes were able to compete.
Sarah White (FR/Smithton, Mo.) rounded out the Eagles lineup, finishing in 13th place.
Two other teams competed in the event. William Woods won the team portion, defeating Stephens College, 15-50.
The women's cross country team is set to race next at the Benedictine Invite on September 8.
