Central competes in Larry Young Invitational

Columbia, Mo. - The Central Methodist men's and women's cross country teams competed in their second meet of the 2021 season, as both sides took part in the Larry Young Invite hosted by Columbia College Saturday morning. 

The event featured 280 total runners from 19 different schools. 

The CMU men finished 10th out of 17 teams while the women placed 13th. 

Radovan Kemboi was the highest finisher on the men's side, as he finished 9th in the 8K with a final time of 26:54.79. Fellow senior Grahman Lemmons ran the race in 28:10.39, good enough to place 31st. Shawn Kiptoo, Zy'Shonne Cowans, and Jack Schiffhauer rounded out the top five runners for the Eagles. 

For the women, Katherine Bangert was the highest finisher for CMU, running the 5K in a time of 20:47.13 for a 38th place finish. Madeline Wieseman also landed in the top 50 with a time of 21:02.75. Darly Camilo, Claire Sykes, and Isabella Ross were the final three Eagles in Central's top five. 

Missouri S&T won the event on the men's side with 72 team points, 30 points better than second place. Host Columbia College took home the women's title with 69 team points. 

The Eagles will next compete in the NAIA Seminole Valley Stampede hosted by Mount Mercy University Saturday, Oct. 9 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
