Central Cross Country Continues Competition at Larry Young Invitational Friday Night

Columbia, Mo. - The Central Methodist men's and women's cross country programs continued early season competition at the Larry Young Invite Friday night in Columbia, Mo. 

Other programs competing include; Missouri S&T, Benedictine College, Truman State University, William Woods, Friends, Missouri Baptist, Columbia College, Haskell, Park, Central Methodist, Evangel, Missouri Valley College, Lincoln University, Health Sciences and Pharmacy, and St. Charles Community College. 

The CMU Women posted a seventh place finish, while the men finished 10th. 

On the women's side, the first Eagle to cross the finish line in the 5K was Katherine Bangert in a time of 20:40.9. Madeline Wieseman finished 44th in a time of 20:52, followed by Morgan Miller (48th, 20:53.7) and Yanira Paninka (54th, 21:18.1). Dayana Montenegro rounded out Central's top five runners, posting a 64th place finish in 21:54.3. 

Truman State University took home the women's team title 41 total points, while Cora Stimpson, also of Truman won the individual championsip at 18:59.1

For the CMU men, sophomore Meshack Kiptanui landed inside the Top 15 at No. 14, posting an 8K time of 26:52.3. Shawn Kiptoo was the second Eagle to cross the line at 27:01.6, ultimately finishing 21st. Zy'Shonne Cowans (80th, 29:01.8), Doriye Jackson (83rd, 29:16.3), and Grand Engel (98th, 29:47) rounded out CMU's Top five runners. 

Missouri S&T won the men's championship with 49 points. Hayes Pateidl (Missouri S&T) took home the individual crown in a time of 25:07.4. 

Both squads will next compete at the Gans Creek Classic Saturday, Oct. 1 in Columbia, Mo.
