Lady Eagles Fall at Lindenwood
The Central Methodist University women's basketball team made just 10-of-23 free throws, which proved to be the difference in the game, as the Lady Eagles suffered a 66-53 loss at Lindenwood University Thursday night.

After trailing by 10 points with just less than 17 minutes left in the game, CMU rallied to get to within four at 46-42 with 10:37 remaining. The Lady Eagles were held scoreless for the next five minutes, however, as Lindenwood opened up a 54-42 lead. The Lions extended their lead to as many as 16 with three minutes left, before earning the 13-point win.

The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first seven minutes of the game after a three-pointer by senior Jazmynn Hutchings (Des Moines, Iowa). Lindenwood answered with an 8-2 run to take a one-point lead before CMU tied the score again on a free throw by freshman Sammie Gathercole (Springfield, Mo.) with 8:22 left in the first half. Lindenwood opened up a 28-21 lead before freshman Nakia Robinson (St. Louis, Mo.) made the score 28-24, but a pair of Lindenwood free throws made the score 30-24 at halftime. The Lions extended their lead to 38-28 in the first three minutes of the second half.

Central Methodist shot 32.3 percent from the field in the game, including 3-of-16 from three-point range. Lindenwood finished with 47.2 percent shooting from the field, despite finishing 0-of-17 from beyond the arc. The Lions made 16-of-18 from the free-throw line, while CMU converted just 10-of-23 free-throw attempts. Lindenwood also finished with a 40-37 rebounding advantage.

Robinson led CMU with 13 points in the game, while Hutchings added nine and freshman Ashley Nyakundi (Arlington, Texas) finished with eight. Junior Alexa Fox (Columbia, Mo.) pulled down a team-high six rebounds for CMU.

CMU dropped to 3-14 on the season and 1-6 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference with the loss. Lindenwood improved to 9-6 overall and 5-2 in the conference. The Lady Eagles will return to action Saturday when they host Benedictine College at 2 p.m. in Puckett Field House.
