Daytona Beach, Fla. – The Central Methodist Women's Basketball team wrapped up play at the Daytona Shootout with a challenging matchup against No. 25 Georgetown College on Thursday afternoon in Daytona Beach, Florida.
CMU battled throughout but ultimately fell to the Tigers, 76–59. With the loss, the Eagles move to 8–6 on the season, while Georgetown improves to 14–1.
CMU hung tough with Georgetown in the first quarter, trailing by just five at the end of the first frame. However, the Tigers outscored Central, 15-8 in the second quarter to take a 39-27 lead into the locker room at the halftime break.
The Eagles responded with a strong third quarter, outscoring the Tigers 19–16 to cut into the deficit. CMU continued to compete in the final period, but Georgetown's defense limited the Eagles to 13 points in the fourth quarter, securing the 17-point victory.
Offensively, two Eagles finished in double figures. Kaitlyn Patke led the way with 14 points on six-of-10 shooting, while also adding six rebounds and going a perfect two-for-two from the free-throw line. Senior Asnate Gerke followed with 13 points, six assists, and three rebounds.
Freshman Tayla Robinson chipped in seven points, while Kaelyn Johnson and Maizen Williams each added six. Johnson also grabbed a game-high seven rebounds. CMU committed 17 turnovers in the contest, compared to just eight for Georgetown.
The Eagles will head north for Christmas break before returning to action on January 3 to open the new year in Des Moines, Iowa, against the Grand View Vikings.
