Eagles Drop to No. 10 Pioneers in Heart Quarterfinals

Eagles Drop to No. 10 Pioneers in Heart Quarterfinals

Olathe, Kan. The Central Methodist Women's Basketball team saw its season come to a close in the quarterfinals of the Heart of America Conference Tournament Wednesday night in Olathe, Kansas.

Central, who served as the No. 8 seed in the tourney, fell to No. 1 seed MidAmerica Nazarene, 76-42.

The Eagles battled the Pioneers throughout the opening quarter and carried that energy into the early minutes of the second. However, MidAmerica created separation as the period progressed, and headed into halftime with a 15-point advantage.

Central made its strongest push in the fourth quarter, pouring in 17 points in an effort to chip away at the deficit. Despite the late surge, the Eagles fell short as the Pioneers secured the quarterfinal victory.

Junior Maizen Williams paced CMU offensively with 12 points, while Mary Copeland added eight points and four rebounds.

Freshman Tayla Robinson contributed six points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in a well-rounded performance.

On the glass, junior Kaelyn Johnson grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, while Kaitlyn Patke added seven boards.

Central finishes the year with a 15-14 overall record and a 10-10 mark in the Heart of America.
