FAYETTE, Mo. - In a chippy conference matchup featuring more than 60 fouls, the No. 23 Central Methodist University women's basketball team grinded out a 75-65 victory over Clarke University.
A strong 24-10 second quarter led the squad to victory in a true team-win that showcased 12 scoring Eagles. Current Heart Player of the Week Mercedes Jefflo (JR/Compton, Calif.) led the way with 20 points while adding six steals and two blocks. Dajhae Mullins (SR/Chicago, Ill.) came off the bench to score 10 points and tack on six rebounds.
Central Methodist hosted a clinic from the free throw line, going 21-for-28. The Eagles excelled defensively, holding Clarke to 28% from the field and forcing 25 turnovers.
Shannon Mitchell (SR/Seligman, Mo.) snagged 10 rebounds and Lajanea Kimbrough (SR/Indianapolis, Ind.) dished four assists to lead Central Methodist in those categories.
Central Methodist is back in action at Puckett Fieldhouse on Saturday, Jan. 5, at 2 pm against Missouri Valley.
