FAYETTE, Mo. – The Central Methodist University women's basketball team overcame a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to keep their season alive for a fleeting moment, but couldn't seal the deal in an overtime loss to Culver-Stockton in the Heart of America Athletic Conference Semifinal Round.
A scrappy Culver-Stockton squad was unfazed by the bright lights and the big stage, going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line in the extra frame to pull away from Central Methodist and clinch the upset victory.
A trio of high scorers buoyed Central Methodist in the contest. Tatiana Grant (SR/Milwaukee, Wis.) led the squad and tied for the overall leader with 24 points, shooting an efficient 10-for-19 from the field. Crimson Jones (JR/Flora, Ill.), who netted the game-tying basket at the end of regulation, boasted 21 points. Mercedes Jefflo (JR/Compton, Calif.) rounded things out with a double-double performance of 20 points and 10 steals. Jefflo also dished out a team-high of eight assists.
The Eagles will now wait until the bracket reveal for the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship to determine if their 2018-19 campaign has truly ended. The bracket reveal, hosted by the national office, will take place on March 6 at 5 pm. The live announcement can be found here.
