FAYETTE, Mo. – The No. 8-ranked Central Methodist University women's basketball team continues to ride a hot streak after securing their ninth consecutive win over (RV) Benedictine in an 81-64 decision.
Lanay Rodney (SR/Peekskill, N.Y.) led all scorers in the contest after notching 23 points en route to the victory. She finished 9-for-12 from the floor, including shooting 2- 6 from long range, while going 3 -4 from the free-throw line. Fellow teammate Gloria Mulumba (SR/Helsinki, Finland) produced her second double-double of the season with an 11 point, 11 rebound performance.
With the win, the Eagles remain tied at the top of the Heart standings with a 9-1 conference record (15-1 overall). Benedictine falls to 12-4 on the season (6-4 Heart).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Central opened the first frame with a blistering 13-2 run, closing the opening quarter with a 27-9 lead
- Benedictine won the battle on the boards with a +7 advantage but Central won the turnover battle after forcing 24 mistakes
- CMU shot 40% from the floor while holding the Ravens to just three made three's and 34% overall
- The Eagles were near perfect from the charity stripe with a 21-of-23 (91%) showing
