FAYETTE, Mo. – The No. 8-ranked Central Methodist University women's basketball team stretched its winning streak to eight as they rolled over Mount Mercy on Wednesday evening in Puckett Field House.
The Eagles jumped out to a hefty 64-30 lead at the half after a pair of efficient quarters to open the contest. The lead continued to stretch as the red-hot shooters outscored the Mustangs 35-15 in the third frame, bumping CMU's scoring total to a lofty 98 points by the end of the quarter before closing out the game with a 112-61 decision.
Mercedes Jefflo (SR/Compton, Calif.) led all scorers in the contest for the fifth consecutive game, dropping 31 points after going 10-for-17 from the floor. She also tacked on five assists, four steals, four rebounds, and one block en route to the victory. Lanay Rodney (SR/Peekskill, N.Y.), Crimson Jones (SR/Flora, Ill.), and Gloria Mulumba (SR/Helsinki, Finland) also finished the contest in double figures.
INSIDE THE BOX:
- Central shot an efficient 52 percent from the floor and a stellar 47 percent from long range, holding the Mustangs to a cold 33 percent on the night
- The Eagles were +8 on the battle for the boards after pulling down 43 in total
