Fayette, Mo. - The No. 14 Central Methodist women's basketball program closed out 2021 with a 74-40 victory over William Woods Friday afternoon in Puckett Field House.
With the win, Central improves to 11-3 overall, and are winners of three of their last four contests. William Woods falls to 3-9 on the season/
The Eagles opened the first eight minutes of play on a 19-2 scoring run, finishing the quarter with a 21-9 lead. The second quarter belonged to William Woods, as the Owls outscored Central 15-13. CMU still held a commanding 44-24 lead heading into the halftime break.
Central held William Woods to just four third-quarter points and outscored the Owls by 10 in the final frame to earn a 34-point victory.
Four Eagles reached double figures, led by Daryna Bachkarova with 19 points on seven-of-15 shooting from the floor along with five assists, four rebounds and three steals. Leianya Massenat followed with 11 points while the duo of Leah Johnson and Allison French each added 10.
Eternati Willock made her season debut, playing in 28 minutes and grabbing a team-high 15 rebounds in addition to three steals and three blocks. Kedranea' Addison nearly tallied a double-double with eight points and eight rebounds.
As a team, Central shot 42.9-percent from the floor while holding William Woods to 26.8-percent. The Eagles also forced 25 turnovers on 17 steals. Jaicia Canady, Bachkarova, Willock, and Massenat each finished the afternoon with three steals apiece.
CMU won the rebounding battle, grabbing 49 boards compared to just 38 for the Owls.
Central returns to Heart action and will next host Benedictine College on Monday, Jan. 3 at 4:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
