Fayette, Mo. - The No. 9 Central Methodist Women's Basketball program opened the 2022-23 season with a 94-61 victory over Haskell Indian Nations University Monday evening inside Puckett Field House.
The Eagles outscored the Indians in each quarter, including double-digits in the first and second quarters.
Senior guard Daryna Bachkarova led the offense in scoring, matching her career-high with 26 points on nine-of-19 shooting from the field, which included four three-point baskets. The native of Minsk, Belarus also added four rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block in the win.
Newcomer Zutorya Cook secured a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. She also added a game-high seven steals paired with four assists.
Sophomore forward Leah Johnson eached double-figures with 13 points on 50-percent shooting from the floor. In addition, Johnson finished second on the team with seven rebounds.
Jaicia Canady rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points along with eight assists, six rebounds, and four steals. Newcomer Curentiy Emerson nearly cracked double figures with nine points in just nine minutes of action off the bench.
Overall, Central shot 43.4-percent from the floor and an impressive 78.6-percent from the free throw line. The CMU defense also forced 28 Haskell turnovers on 24 steals.
The Eagles will travel west to Salina, Kan. to face Kansas Wesleyan Saturday, Nov. 5 at 3:00 p.m.
