No. 9 Central Cruises Past Kansas Wesleyan in Salina, 96-70

Salina, Kan. - The No. 9 Central Methodist Women's Basketball program defeated Kansas Wesleyan by a final score of 96-70 Saturday afternoon in Salina, Kan. 

It marks CMU's second-straight 90-plus scoring output. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the early season, while the Coyotes fall to 0-3. 

All five of Central's starters reached double-figures, led by forward Leah Johnson. Johnson tallied a career-high 24 points on nine-of-12 shooting from the floor, including 75-percent from the charity stripe. The native of Ewing, N.J. also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to earn a double-double. In addition, she recorded three assists and three blocks. 

Leianya Massenat recorded 21 points and added four rebounds and an assist. Zutorya Cook scored 14 points on seven-of-eight shooting from the floor. Cook stuffed the stat sheet with five assists, three rebounds, and two steals. 

Jaicia Canady added 13 points and matched Cook with five assists. The sophomore guard also grabbed five rebounds and a game-high five steals. 

Senior forward Daryna Bachkarova was the final Eagle to land in double figures, scoring 11 points, and adding four rebounds, three steals, and two assists. 

Overall, Central shot a cool 56.5-percent from the floor compared to 38.3-percent for Kansas Wesleyan. The Eagles controlled the glass, grabbing 43 total rebounds to KWU's 26. 13 of CMU's rebounds came on the offensive glass. 

The Eagles return home to host Missouri Baptist Saturday, Nov. 12 at 7:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
