Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The No. 4 Central Methodist Women's Basketball team used a 33-point first quarter to cruise past Mount Mercy University by a final score of 107-61 Saturday afternoon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
With the win, Central keeps its perfect record intact at 8-0 and 4-0 in conference play. The Mustangs now stand at 5-3 and 1-2 in the Heart.
Holding a 20-point lead after just one quarter of play, Central outscored Mount Mercy 26-14 and 31-16 in the second and third quarters to take a commanding 90-43 lead into the final frame.
The final quarter was more even in scoring, but Central's tremendous play in the first three quarters gave them plenty of cushion to cruise through the final 10 minutes of action.
As a team, Central finished the afternoon shooting 47.7-percent from the floor and 81.8-percent from the charity stripe.
All five of CMU's starters landed in double-figures, led by by sophomore guard Zutorya Cook, who poured in 26 points in 29 minutes of action. The native of Marietta, Ga. also added four rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
Daryna Bachkarova nearly tallied a double-double with 21 points paired with nine rebounds. Junior guard Jaicia Canady scored a career-high 19 points, shooting 75-percent from the floor and a perfect 100-percent from the free throw line.
Reigning Heart Player of the Week Leianya Massenat added 14 points, while Leah Johnson secured a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Curentiy Emerson nearly cracked double figures with nine points in just nine minutes off the bench.
Central dominated the glass, outrebounding the Mustangs 57-41. Robin Beck matched Bachkarova with nine rebounds.
The Eagles forced 22 Mount Mercy turnovers on 15 steals, while only committing eight turnovers themselves.
CMU will conclude its three-game road swing with a matchup against William Penn Saturday, Dec. 10 at 2:00 p.m. in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
