Oskaloosa, Iowa - The No. 4 Central Methodist Women's Basketball team pushed their record to 9-0 with an 82-54 victory over William Penn Saturday afternoon in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Central also improves its conference record to 4-0, while the Statesmen fall to 4-6 and 2-3 in the Heart.
The Eagles opened the game by holding William Penn to six points in the first quarter. Central outscored WPU by double-digits in the second quarter to take a 43-19 lead at the halftime break.
CMU outscored the Statesmen, 24-18, before William Penn closed the game by winning the fourth 17-15.
Daryna Bachkarova led the CMU offense with 23 points on 50-percent shooting from the floor, which also included three three-point baskets. Sophomore forward Leah Johnson secured a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. Leianya Massenat and Zutorya Cook matched Johnson with 13 points each.
Cook stuffed the stat sheet with seven steals, six assists, and five rebounds. Jaicia Canady dished out a game-high eight assists and finished second on the team with seven rebounds. She also recorded three steals.
The difference in the game proved to be the turnover battle, as Central forced 29 turnovers while committing just four. Altogether, seven different Eagles forced at least two turnovers.
CMU will return home to host Culver-Stockton College Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 5:30 p.m. inside Puckett Field House. The Wildcats are currently 10-1 overall and join Central as the only undefeated team remaining in conference play at 5-0.
