Fayette, Mo. - The No. 4 Central Methodist Women's Basketball program kept their perfect record intact with a gutsy 75-61 win over Culver-Stockton College Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.
With the win, Central improves to 10-0 and 6-0 in the conference. The Wildcats fall to 10-2 and suffer their first conference loss of the season, as they now stand at 5-1. The Eagles also maintain their lead atop the standings with tonight's victory.
It was a back and forth affair with both teams notted at 53-53 entering the fourth quarter of play. Central would close the game on a 22-8 scoring run in the final frame, earning a 14 point victory over Culver-Stockton.
The Eagles were led by Leianya Massenat, who tallied a double-double with a game-high 22 points in addition to 14 rebounds. In addition, the native of Trenton, N.J. stuffed the stat sheet with five assists, two steals, and two blocks. She also knocked down a game-high four three-point baskets. Leah Johnson joined the double-double club with 15 points and 12 rebounds in just 19 minutes of action.
Daryna Bachkarova was the final Eagle to land in double figures with 18 points including three three-point baskets. She also added eight rebounds, and four steals.
Jaicia Canady finished the evening with seven points, a game-high six assists, four rebounds, and three steals. Zutorya Cook also chipped in eight points in 38 minutes of action.
Despite Culver-Stockton holding a slight advantage in shooting efficiency (38.8-percent to Central's 37.5-percent), CMU doubled up the Wildcats on the boards 45-35. Seventeen of Central's rebounds came on the offensive glass.
The Eagles also forced 19 Wildcat turnovers on seven steals.
CMU will return to action Monday, Dec. 19th at 2:00 p.m. against Philander Smith in Little Rock, Ark.
