Eagles Push Record to 15-0 with Victory over Pirates

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 2 CMU Women's Basketball team pushed its record to 15-0 with a 98-68 victory over the Park University Pirates Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.

The Eagles now stand at 15-0 and 9-0 in conference play, currently sitting in first place in the Heart. Park falls to 3-12 and 1-9 in the Heart.

Central held a 52-34 lead at the halftime break, before outscoring the Pirates 30-11 in the third to stretch their lead to 37. Park tallied 23 fourth quarter points but could not overcome the double-digit deficit, as Central would go on to earn a 30-point win.

It marks CMU's 13th victory by double-digits so far this season.

Freshman Taliyah Carter had her best game as an Eagle, leading Central's scoring attack with 19 points on eight-of-nine shooting from the floor. She also added four rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block.

Leianya Massenat and Daryna Bachkarova each tallied 15 points, while Bachkarova added six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Massenat matched Bachkarova with four assists, and knocked down two three-point baskets.

Reigning Heart Player of the Week Leah Johnson rounded out the double-digit scorers for CMU with 10 points to go along with 10 rebounds. In addition to her double-double performance, Johnson also recorded three blocks.

Zutorya Cook nearly cracked double figures with nine points, stuffing the stat sheet with six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Jaicia Canady and Audrey Graham each chipped in eight points, while Canady also dished out a game-high seven assists. Graham knocked down two three-point baskets.

As a team, Central shot 51.3-percent from the floor and 72.2-percent from the charity stripe. The Eagles also won the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Pirates 43-32. Eighteen of those rebounds came on the offensive glass.

The Eagles continue Heart action with a short trip to Missouri Valley College to play the Vikings Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2:00 p.m. in Marshall, Mo.
