Fayette, Mo. - A career milestone for sophomore guard Leianya Massenat highlighted No. 2 Central's 92-52 victory over Benedictine College Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.
The Eagles improve their overall record to 20-0 and 14-0 in conference play, while the Ravens fall to 7-14 and 4-11 in the conference. The unblemished 20-0 record marks CMU's best start in a single-season in program history.
Central outscored Benedictine 23-11 and 25-14 in the first two quarters, taking a 48-25 lead into the locker room at halftime. CMU's best quarter came in the third, as they posted 31 points compared to just nine for BC.
Despite Benedictine outscoring Central by five in the final quarter, CMU's play in the first three quarters was enough to propel them to a lopsided 40-point win.
Massenat had the best night of anyone on the floor, scoring 22 points on eight-of-13 shooting from the field which included six three-point baskets. Her first bucket of the third quarter, a breakaway layup on a steal, pushed her over 1,000 career points in just two and a half seasons.
She becomes just the 17th Eagle in program history to score 1,000 career points.
Daryna Bachkarova joined Massenat with 20-plus points, tallying 20 points on six-of-12 shooting from three and two-for-two from the charity stripe. She also added four points, two steals and two blocks.
Zutorya Cook was the third Eagle to land in double figures with 12 points, along with five rebounds, four steals, three assists, and a block. Robin Beck rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points in 15 minutes off the bench.
Jaicia Canady nearly cracked double-digits with nine points while Leah Johnson added eight in her first action back in the starting lineup.
As a team, Central shot more than 56.7-percent from the field and 48.3-percent from three. CMU's defense also forced 24 turnovers on 14 steals.
The Eagles remain at home against rival Missouri Valley College Saturday, Jan. 28 at 2:00 p.m.
