No. 2 Eagles Cruise Past Valor, 91-61

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 2 Central Methodist Women's Basketball program cruised past Heart foe Evangel University by a final score of 91-61 Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.

Central keeps its perfect record intact at 24-0 and 18-0 in conference play. The Valor fall to 12-12 and 11-8 in the Heart.

Tonight's game marks the final regular season meeting between the two schools, as Evangel will join the KCAC following the 2022-23 academic year.

Holding just a five-point lead at the end of the first quarter, the Eagles outscored Evangel 29-12 in the second. CMU would hold a 49-27 lead at the halftime break.

Despite the final two quarters being more closely balanced between both teams, Central would go on to earn the 30 point victory.

Five different Eagles landed in double figures including four in the starting five. Sophomore forward Leah Johnson tallied another double double with 20 points and 15 rebounds. She also added four blocks, two steals, and an assist.

Leianya Massenat followed with 18 points, while Zutorya Cook added 17. Cook also recorded six steals, four assists, three rebounds, and a block.

Taliyah Carter scored 11 points and finished second on the team with seven rebounds. Daryna Bachkarova rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points in addition to five assists, three steals, and a block.

The Eagles had an extremely efficient shooting night, converting 53.6 percent from the floor, 30.8 percent from three, and 86.7 percent from the free throw line.

Central's defense held the Valor to just 32.9 percent shooting from the floor which included just one three point basket.

CMU edged Evangel on the glass, grabbing 44 rebounds compared to 42 for the Vikings.

Central remains at home to host Mount Mercy University Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2:00 p.m. for its annual Blow Pop game.
