Fayette, Mo. - The No. 2 Central Methodist Women's Basketball program completed the regular season with an 82-42 victory over William Penn Saturday afternoon inside Puckett Field House.
The Eagles complete the regular season with a perfect 28-0 overall record and a 22-0 mark in the Heart. William Penn sees its season come to an end with a 9-19 overall mark and a 6-16 record in conference play.
Prior to tipoff, CMU honored its 2022-23 senior class which included Daryna Bachkarova, Jaicia Canady, Robin Beck, and Natalia Shpegel.
Leah Johnson led the offense with 20 points and nine rebounds, nearly earning a double-double. Bachkarova secured 16 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.
Leianya Massenat also nearly tallied a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. She also added four assists, three steals, and a block.
Canady dished out a game-high 11 assists, while Audrey Graham scored seven points in six minutes of action in the closing moments of the game.
Altogether, Central shot 44.4 percent from the field, and 30.8 percent from three. William Penn was held to just 22.2 percent shooting and 20.7 percent from three.
CMU forced 24 Statesmen turnovers on 13 steals. The Eagles won the battle of the boards, grabbing 50 rebounds compared to 41 for WPU.
Central assisted on 24 of their made baskets and scored 38 points in the paint.
The Eagles have earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Central will host No. 8 seeded Baker University Wednesday Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals inside Puckett Field House.
