Kansas City, Mo. - After a dominating regular season, the Eagles were well represented in the Heart Women's Basketball All-Conference teams.
Five players earned Heart All-Conference selections, with three landing on the All-Defensive Team. In addition, four Eagles earned Heart Superlative awards.
Leianya Massenat was named the Heart Player of the Year, while Zutorya Cook was tabbed as the Heart Defensive Player of the Year.
Head Coach Mike Davis was named the Heart Coach of the Year, and Camden Levett the Assistant Coach of the Year.
Massenat earned Heart Player of the Year honors and was selected to the Heart All-Conference First Team. The native of Trenton, N.J. averaged 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists/game during the regular season. She was twice named the Heart Women's Basketball Player of the Week, and scored her 1000th career point against Benedictine College on Jan. 25.
In addition to Defensive Player of the Year honors, Cook also landed on the All-Defensive Team and Heart Second Team. She finished the regular season with a conference best 102 steals, averaging 3.6 steals/game. Cook was also tabbed as the Heart Player of the Week back on Dec. 5.
Coach Davis was named the Heart Coach of the Year for the third time in his career. He is currently in his 21st year leading the Eagles and has led the program to their best start in school history at 28-0. In addition, Davis has led CMU to the first No. 1 national ranking in the history of the program, while clinching the Heart Regular Season Championship and an automatic berth into the national tournament.
Levett is currently in his first season as the assistant coach for CMU. Levett had previously served as a graduate assistant with the program in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. In his three seasons with the program, Levett has been apart of three national tournament teams, with two of those teams winning the Heart Conference Championship.
Sophomore forward Leah Johnson earned First Team All-Conference recognition and was named to the Heart All-Defensive Team. Johnson averaged a double-double with 15.2 points and 11.1 rebounds/game. She leads the team averaging 2.2 blocks/game and was named Conference Player of the Week three times. Johnson's best outing of the year came against Benedictine College, where she scored 24 points in addition to a new career-best 21 rebounds, just four rebounds shy of tying the single-game program record.
Daryna Bachkarova was elected to the First Team for the third-straight season. The senior from Minsk, Belarus averaged 16.8 points, five rebounds, and 2.7 assists/game. Bachkarova has been named the Heart Player of the Week twice, and joined Massenat as a member of the 1,000 point club against Missouri Valley on Jan. 28. In just two and a half seasons with CMU, she has scored 1,100 career points.
Jaicia Canady rounds out the Heart honors for CMU, as she was named to the Heart All-Conference Second Team and the All-Defensive team. Canady, a junior from Fort Worth, Texas, has started in every game for CMU this season. She has averaged 8.4 points and 4.1 rebounds/game. Canady is currently averaging 2.7 steals/game, and has set the tone for a Central defense that has allowed just 58.5 points/game this season.
The Eagles have earned the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. They will next host No. 5 seeded Culver-Stockton College in the semifinals Friday, Feb. 24 at 7:00 p.m. inside Puckett Field House.
