Bobcats Claw Back in Second Half to Defeat Central

Bobcats Claw Back in Second Half to Defeat Central

Peru, Neb. - The Central Methodist Women's Basketball team suffered a tough road loss at the hands of Peru State College, 84-72, Saturday afternoon in Peru, Nebraska.

Central falls to 10-12 and 7-11 in the Heart of America, while the Bobcats improve to 10-13 and 7-12 in conference play.

CMU overcame a slow first quarter start to score 21 second quarter points, taking a 36-32 lead into the locker room at halftime. Central led by as many as 10 points in the opening two minutes of the third quarter.

However, the Bobcats outscored CMU by eight points in both the third and fourth quarters to come back and claim a double-digit victory.

Four Eagles landed in double figures including three in the starting five. Tynesha Parnell led the offense with 14 points on five-of-nine shooting from the floor and three three-point baskets. She also added four rebounds, an assist, and a steal to her stat line.

Sa'Mya Stevens, Sharay Trotter, and Genet Mebratu all chipped in 10 points, while Trotter grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out four assists. In addition to her 10 points, Stevens tallied five rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Miaya Ware recorded nine points and grabbed five rebounds in 31 minutes of action, while Charli Wroe scored eight points.

Despite outrebounding the Bobcats, 34-23, Central could not keep up with the shooting pace set by Peru State. PSC converted on 51.7 percent of their attempts from the floor which included 12 three-point baskets.

The Bobcats defense also forced 18 Eagle turnovers on 11 steals, converting those into 24 points.

The Eagles return home to host William Penn University Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m. for the annual Blow Pop game.
