Des Moines, Iowa - The Central Methodist women's basketball team went on the road to face Grand View University Saturday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa.
Central fell to the Vikings, 91-67. The Eagles now stand at 4-4 and 1-3 in the Heart of America, while GVU improves to 4-3 and 2-1 in conference action.
The first quarter saw both teams even at 13-13 after the opening 10 minutes. However, Grand View found an offensive spark in the second quarter, outscoring the Eagles 27-16. Ella Larsen led the charge scoring 16 points in the quarter, taking her team into the halftime break up 40-29.
Despite CMU trying to switch things up defensively in the third quarter, the Vikings kept their foot on the gas, outscoring the Eagles 29-17 and taking a commanding 69-46 lead after three-quarters of play. Cleo Murray was the difference maker this time, providing her team with 17 points in the frame.
The Eagles were able to find some momentum in the fourth, thanks in part to Maliyah Miller and Trishelle Porter both scoring six points and helping Central put up 21 points in the final frame.
The Vikings were able to close things out, however, with a comfortable 24-point win.
Miller had an excellent shooting night, going five-of-six from the floor and five-of-five from the three-point line. Altogether, Miller finished the evening with 15 points, while Porter tallied 11 points.
Nautica Washington nearly cracked double figures with nine points while also adding five rebounds, an assist, and a steal.
CMU held a slight advantage on the boards, outrebounding Grand View 32-29.
Central will return to Puckett Field House on Tuesday, Nov. 26 to face rival Missouri Valley College. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
