Eagles Slip Past Wildcats Wednesday Night

Eagles Slip Past Wildcats Wednesday Night

Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Women's Basketball team picked up a 65-61 win over Baker University Wednesday night inside Puckett Field House.

Central now stands at 5-5 and 2-4 in the Heart of America, while Baker falls to 1-8 and 0-7 in conference action.

In a tightly contested back and forth game, Central pulled out in front by as many as 11 points in the fourth quarter. But a dry spell for CMU allowed Baker to climb back in the game.

The Wildcats went on a 12-0 scoring run in the later stages of the final frame, and eventually pulled out in front 60-59. A three-point make from Tristan Porter snapped the drout and put Central back out in the lead at 62-60.

Central's defense held BU to just one point in the final 2:49 of play, as the Eagles would go on to earn the four-point win.

Sharay Trotter finished the evening with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds. The senior from University Place, Washington also added five assists, two steals, and a block to her stat line.

Freshman Nautica Washington led Central in scoring with 13 points to go along with four assists and three steals. Tristan Porter finished the evening with 11 points while Kaelyn Johnson scored 10.

Trishelle Porter nearly cracked double figures with eight points in 13 minutes of action.

The Wildcats had a more efficient shooting night from the floor, converting on 41.7 percent of their attempts, compared to 36.1 percent for CMU. Both teams knocked down eight three-point baskets, and were identical in shooting from the charity stripe at 76.5 percent.

The difference maker in the game was on the glass, as Central secured 44 total rebounds compared to just 26 for the 'Cats. Eighteen of CMU's boards came on the offensive glass.

The Eagles next head out on the road for a matchup against Clarke University Saturday, Dec. 7 at 12:00 p.m. in Dubuque, Iowa.
