Parkville, Mo. - The No. 1 Central Methodist men's soccer team concluded the regular season with a 3-1 victory over Park University Saturday afternoon in Parkville, Mo.
With the win, CMU concludes the regular season with a perfect 16-0 overall record and a flawless 12-0 mark in Heart action. The Eagles have won 41 consecutive Heart regular season-conference matches, and have remained undefeated in their last 43. The Eagles last defeat to a conference opponent in the regular season came on Sept. 26, 2018.
CMU found themselves in an early hole, as Park took the lead in the 13th minute off a second chance goal. However, Central battled back and pressured the Pirate defense, leading to the game tying goal from Alessandro Salvadego in the 20th minute unassisted.
Salvadego put the Eagles out in front nine minutes later, striking the ball from 10-yards out in the lower right corner of the net. The assist came from teammate Christian Sanchez.
Central would enter the halftime break with a 2-1 advantage. CMU's offense continued to pressure Park, and in the 82nd minute, forced a Pirate error which led to an own goal, making the final score 3-1 in favor of Central.
Overall, the CMU offense outshot the Pirates offense 27-7 for the match and 11 shots on goal. Salvadego led the Eagles with seven shots, including two on goal and a brace.
Stefano Campisi tallied five goals with three shots on goal. Stefano Camerlengo played all 90 minutes between the posts, picking up two saves.
Central has earned the No. 1 overall seed in the Heart conference tournament next week and will host the No. 8 seed Friday, Nov. 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Davis Field.
