Eagles Comeback Falls Short Against Baker

Eagles Comeback Falls Short Against Baker

Fayette, Mo. - The No. 24 Central Methodist Men's Soccer program fell just short in a back-and-fourth contest against Baker University, 3-2, Wednesday night at Davis Field.

The Eagles fall to 3-2-2 and 0-1-1 in conference play, while Baker improves to 5-1-3 and 1-0-1 in the Heart of America.

Central found themselves trailing early on an own goal in the 21st minute of play coming off a corner kick for the Wildcats. Baker padded its lead right before halftime, as Gyorgy Kamaras found the back of the net to put BU up 2-0 at the break.

The Eagles broke through in the 60th minute, as a defensive miscue by Baker gave possession to Koen Schimmel of CMU. Schimmel fired off a right footed shot that found the corner of the net to cut the Wildcats' lead to 2-1.

Less than a minute later, Baker answered with a goal on a set piece to extend their lead back to two goals.

In the 67th minute, Central's offense broke through down the near sideline, as Isaac Johnson sent a cross in that found Liam Arthur. Arthur just got enough of a touch on the ball to slip it past the keeper for the Eagles' second goal of the night.

Central was unable to find the equalizer in the final 23 minutes, as they ultimately fell to the Wildcats, 3-2.

CMU's offense outpaced Baker for a majority of the match, firing off 19 total shots compared to 10 for BU. However, seven of Baker's 10 shots came on goal. Schimmel led the Eagles with five total shots followed by Johnson with four.

The Eagles will next face No. 6 MidAmerica Nazarene University Saturday, Sept. 23 at 3:30 p.m. in Olathe, Kan.
