CMU Football Players Earn HAAC Honors

CMU Football Players Earn HAAC Honors
Twenty Central Methodist University football players have received Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) postseason honors based on their performances in the 2011 season. Junior running back Burton Iosefa (San Jose, Calif.) and senior defensive lineman Matt Fraley (St. Robert, Mo.) were named to the HAAC first team.

Sophomore offensive lineman Bo Amos (Wright City, Mo.), senior punter Marshall Woodruff (Warsaw, Mo.) junior defensive lineman Trevor Robinson (Visalia, Calif.), junior defensive back Mitchell Swan (Converse, Texas), and senior safety Travis McDowell (Greenfield,Mo.) all received HAAC second team honors.

Senior running back James Cody (San Diego, Calif.), freshman kicker Ezequiel Rivera (Corona, Calif.), senior linebacker Tyler Belt (Macon, Mo.), senior punt returner Brad Carter (El Cajon, Calif.), and junior quarterback Bryant Jackson (Lee's Summit, Mo.) were named to the third team. In addition, CMU had eight players listed on the All-HAAC honorable mention.

Iosefa was selected to the All-HAAC first team his first season at CMU after compiling 667 total rushing yards on the year. He had a total of four touchdowns in 2011. Iosefa was named the HAAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week Oct 31.

Fraley received All-HAAC first team honors for the third straight season. He finished the 2011 season with 42 tackles, including 5.5 sacks for a total loss of 38 yards. He also had a forced fumble on the season. �Fraley is tied for the CMU record of career tackles for loss with 41.5.

Amos was named to the All-HAAC second team in only his second collegiate season.

Woodruff received second team honors, after being named an All-HAAC Honorable Mention in 2009. For the 2011 season, Woodruff had 40 punts for 1,598 yards, a 39.6 yard average. He ranks 12th in the division in punt yards per attempt.�

Robinson was named to the All-HAAC second team, after being selected to the third team in 2010. He had a total of 59 tackles, including11 sacks for a total loss of 65.5 yards. He ranks third in the division in sacks per game and sixth in total sacks. He comes in at 11th place in tackles for loss per game.

Swan received All-HAAC second team honors in his first season at CMU. He had 36 tackles as well as one interception on the season.

McDowell was named to the second team after getting 41 sacks for the 2011 season. McDowell also had seven interceptions and 11 pass deflections on the year. In the division, he ranks 3rd overall for interceptions per game and 5th in total interceptions.

Cody received All-HAAC third team honors. He had 728 total rushing yards on the season, averaging 72.8 yards a game. Cody ended the season with five touchdowns.

Rivera earned a spot on the All-HAAC third team in his first collegiate season. He had 23 points after touchdown for the 2011 season. Rivera also made 8 of 11 field goals this season, the longest being 42 yards. He was named the HAAC Special Teams Player-of-the-Week both Oct. 17 and Oct. 31.

Belt was selected to the third team for the second straight year, after receiving All-HAAC Honorable Mention honors in 2009. He had 41 tackles and 1.5 sacks on the season. Belt also had one interception and two pass deflections.

Carter also earned a spot on the All-HAAC third team, his second year to receive All-HAAC honors. He had 13 returns on the season for 183 yards. Carter had one return touchdown for a total of 68 yards. He ranks 9th in the division in punt returns yards per attempt.

Jackson was named to the third team for the second straight year. He had 70 rushes for 132 yards as well as 860 pass yards. Jackson had 55 completed passes and nine touchdowns on the season.

In addition, eight other CMU players were All-HAAC Honorable Mention honorees. Junior wide receiver William Eichman (Moreno Valley, Calif.) and senior offensive lineman Tyler Gray (Ormand Beach, Fla.) earned a first-time spot on the team. Senior wide receiver Eric Carrillo (Chula Vista, Calif.) was named an honorable mention after receiving All-HAAC second team honors in 2010.

Freshman offensive lineman Jake McSpadden (Branson, Mo.) was named an All-HAAC Honorable Mention in his first collegiate season. Senior running back Caleb Haynes (Higginsville, Mo.) landed a spot on the All-HAAC Honorable Mention team. Senior defensive lineman Darius Parish (Wichita, Kan.) was an Honorable Mention for the 2011 season.

Junior safety Bryan Plenge (Kahoka, Mo.) was named to the All-HAAC Honorable Mention Team after being selected as the HAAC Defensive Player-of-the-Week Sept. 26. Senior safety Brett Fitchpatrick lands a spot on the All-HAAC Honorable Mention for the second year.�
