Lomax's Career Day Carries Central to Road win Over St. Ambrose

Lomax's Career Day Carries Central to Road win Over St. Ambrose

Davenport, Iowa - The Central Methodist Football program picked up a much needed road win over new Heart Football member, St. Ambrose University Saturday afternoon in Davenport, Iowa.

Central defeated the Fighting Bees by a final score of 38-20. It marks CMU's first road win since Sept. 9, 2023, when they beat Culver-Stockton in Canton, 16-11.

CMU jumped out to a 7-0 led in the closing moments of the first quarter. Jordan Gile found Je'Von Williams for a 26 yard passing touchdown at the 1:53 mark of the first.

The following possession saw the Eagles' defense stop St. Ambrose on fourth down near midfield, courtesy of a sack from Matthew Higginbotham.

Two plays into the ensuing offensive drive, Gile found senior running back Dawan Lomax through the air for a 55-yard touchdown pass at the 14:47 mark of the second quarter.

The CMU defense stopped the next three SAU offensive drives, including another fourth down stop.

Central's final score of the half came on a 28 yard field goal from Cristobal Salgado at the 3:06 mark in the second.

SAU got on the board just before halftime following a 71 yard touchdown pass to cut Central's lead to 17-7 entering the halftime break. The Fighting Bee's missed a 40 yard field goal attempt at the end of the half, helping Central to preserve a double-digit lead.

Lomax continued to shine, as the senior from Boonville, Missouri scored on a 75 yard rushing touchdown on the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter.

Lomax scored his third touchdown and second rushing score on the Eagles' next drive from 23 yards out, stretching Central's lead to 31-7 early in the third.

The Fighting Bee's continued to battle, as they scored 13 unanswered points with a pair of touchdowns to trim CMU's lead to 31-20.

Central's offense stretched the lead back to 18 in the early stages of the fourth, as Gile found Max Thomas for a 13-yard touchdown pass.

The Eagles' defense closed the game out with five straight defensive stops to help lead CMU to the 38-20 win.

Lomax had a career day both on the ground and receiving game. He carried the ball 22 times for 154 total yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, Lomax led the receiving core with three catches for 98 yards and a touchdown. Overall, Lomax accounted for half of CMU's offensive yardage with 252 total yards.

Jamar Nuby rushed the ball 13 times for 70 yards, averaging 5.4 yards/carry. Gile completed 11 passes for 186 total yards and three touchdowns.

Treyvion Hourel Jr. led the defense with 10 tackles, followed by Kamarrion Ferguson who registered eight tackles and three pass breakups.

The trio of Higginbotham, Dont'e Lewis and Terrell Woods each recorded a sack, including a forced fumble for Woods and a fumble recovery for Higginbotham.

Ashton Fowler also picked up a pair of interceptions to help the defense.

Salgado was a perfect five-for-five on extra points and converted CMU's only field goal of the day from 28 yards out.

Central continues cross division play against Peru State College Saturday, Sept. 20 at 1:00 p.m. at Davis Field on Family weekend.
