Eagles to start spring practice Tuesday

Eagles to start spring practice Tuesday

Spring roster

Spring Practice schedule: March | April

FAYETTE, Mo. -More than 70 prospects, including 40 letterwinners from 2013, are expected on the practice field Tuesday afternoon as the Eagles open spring practice on campus.

After several offsesons of change, the Eagle coaching staff returns intact, starting at the top where Jody Ford enters his third season at the helm and sixth as defensive coordinator in Fayette.

Ford and a staff of eight assistant coaches headed by offensive coordinator John Haines and associate head coach/defensive backs coach Miguel Paredes return 15 starters (six on offense, seven on defense, one specialist) from a year ago.

The Tuesday workout will be the first of 14 practices leading to the Black & White Spring Game on Saturday, April 26. The featured spring game, free to Eagle fans, will kick off at 3 p.m. CT at Davis Field. Earlier that day, Pat Reardon's Central Methodist softball team faces Benedictine (Kan.) nearby at Cox Softball Complex.

Ford wants to see competition at every position during the first Central Methodist spring practice. "We're going to let guys play themselves into positions. It's about open competition at every position. This spring will be about solidifying our depth," Ford said.

Key Openings
While every role is open, several key starting positions are open following the graduation of 19 seniors from the 2013 squad.

On offense, the left tackle, left guard and running back roles are vacant after the graduation of Bo Amos, Michael Tevaga and Maurice Coon, respectively. On defense, Ford's staff will need to replace both defensive ends (Taylor Combs, Tama Hugo) and safeties (Cole Brower, Stephone Allen) from the starting secondary last season.
