Football Falls to Peru State in Road Contest

PERU, Neb. ---- The Central Methodist football team fell on the road to Peru State 40-20 Saturday night.

NOTES
• The Eagles fell to 1-1 on the year, while the Bobcats improved to 2-0.
• Central Methodist outscored Peru State 14-0 in the fourth quarter and 20-14 in the second half.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS
Caleb Bedford tallied 113 yards in the air and completed 10 of 19 attempts.
Royce Long led the Eagles on the ground with 108 yards on nine attempts with a touchdown. Tevin Reid finished with 60 total yards and a score as well.
Quindon Brown led the Eagles defensively with three solo tackles and six assisted tackles. Luis Bello tallied seven total tackles with two sacks and an additional tackle-for-loss. Brandon White picked up a fumble forced by Bello for a defensive touchdown.
• Sean Van Briesen paced the Bobcats with 74 yards on the ground and two scores.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Six minutes into the first quarter, Peru State tallied its first score on a 31 yard run from Van Briesen.
• Peru State added three touchdowns in the second quarter on a 40 yard and 26 yard pass from Carnahan with Van Briesen tallying his second rushing score of the game to lead 26-0 at the half.
• The Central Methodist offense produced its first points at the nine minute mark in the third quarter on a fourth down rush from Reid who found the end zone.
• Peru State added two additional scores in the quarter to lead 40-6.
• Central Methodist scored on a fumble forced by Bello that was recovered by White to make the score 40-13 early in the fourth quarter.
• Long added a score for the Eagles on a five yard rush with just under eight minutes remaining in the game. However the late run from the Eagles came up short as Central Methodist fell on the road to Peru State 40-20.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• The Bobcats totaled 416 yards during the game.
• The Eagles finished with 348 yards of total offense.
• The Eagles edged the Bobcats in passing yards by a 156-107 margin.
• The Eagles also led in total return yards with 133, while the Bobcats finished with 120.

• The Eagles will return to action next Saturday, September 9th, when they host No. 9 Grand View University. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
