Eagles Fall to Grand View on Road

Eagles Fall to Grand View on Road

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Eagles scored the first points of the day, but they were overwhelmed the rest of the way, falling to No. 12 Grand View on Saturday afternoon.

Early in its first possession, Central Methodist faced a 4th-and-7 at its own 41-yard line. Jordan Williams (SR/Memphis, Tenn.) aired it out downfield to Kooper Wilson (SO/Versailles, Mo.) for a 51-yard conversion to keep the drive alive. Two plays later, Williams kept the ball for a four-yard TD scamper to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

Heading into the break, the score was tied at 7-7. Grand View would outscore the Eagles 21-0 in the second half to pull away.

Kaylon Johnson (SR/Memphis, Tenn.) surpassed the 100-yard rushing mark, carrying the ball 28 times for 126 yards.

Anthony Hernandez (JR/Franklin, Calif) excelled on the defensive side of the ball, recording 14 tackles and a forced fumble. Luis Bello (SR/Miami, Fla.) had 10 tackles, as well. Nathan Hampton (SR/Sikeston, Mo.) was a busy man, punting the ball 10 times for an average of 37.2 yards/punt.

Central Methodist was outgained, 482-224, and had zero third-down conversions on the day.

The Eagles will look to get back on the winning track with a home tilt against Graceland on Saturday, Sept. 21. Kickoff on Family Weekend is set for 11 am and the game will air on ESPN3.
