Eagles Top Missouri Valley with Ground Game

FAYETTE, Mo. – In front of a packed Homecoming crowd on Saturday afternoon, the Central Methodist football team rode a strong rushing attack to a second-straight victory over Missouri Valley. 33-20.

With the victory, the Eagles move to 4-2-1 on the season, including 1-0 in Heart South division play.

The Central offensive attack exploded right out of the gate with Jordan Williams (SR/Memphis, Tenn.) finding Kaylon Johnson (SR/Memphis, Tenn.) for a 71-yard touchdown pass in the first minute of action. After the Vikings responded with a touchdown of their own, Johnson picked up his first of two rushing touchdowns to open the second quarter.

Right before heading into the locker room for halftime, Williams scrambled for an eight-yard rushing touchdown to give the Eagles a 20-6 advantage at the intermission.

After a scoreless third stanza, Williams used his legs once again to find the end zone with a five-yard scamper with 13:54 to play. The Eagles iced the game with 3:00 remaining on Johnson's third touchdown of the game.

Johnson finished with his third 100-yard effort of the season, carrying the ball 23 times for 147 yards. Williams had 11 attempts for 83 yards, while Shawn Simmons (JR/Kansas City, Mo.) toted the ball six times for 36 yards.

Through the air, Williams was 17-of-27 for 153 yards and a touchdown. Damontay Allen (SR/Conway, Ark.) and Kristopher Williams (SO/Beaumont, Tex.) led the receiving corps with four receptions each.

Defensively, the Eagles were led by Anthony Hernandez (JR/Franklin, Calif), who had 11 tackles and two sacks, and Jory Maddox (JR/Palmyra, Mo.), who had nine tackles and two pass breakups. Malcolm Elmore (SR/Higginsville, Mo.) and Mar'Quess Daniels each snagged momentum-killing interceptions.

Nathan Hampton (SR/Sikeston, Mo.) booted four punts, averaging 39.8 yards per punt, and placed two inside the 20-yard line. Will Miles (SR/Rock Island, Ill.) blocked two kicks.

Next up for the Eagles is a division battle with Benedictine. Central will head to Atchison on Saturday, October 26 with kick-off set for 8:30 pm.
