Kansas City, Mo. - After CMU Football posted a 41-7 victory over Missouri Valley College on Homecoming weekend, two Eagles were recognized for their on-field performance by the conference office this week.
Sophomore quarterback Paxton DeLaurent was tabbed as the Heart Offensive Player of the Week, while Darian Bell was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Both are first-time award winners this season.
DeLaurent had a career day against the Vikings, accounting for five total touchdowns. The Camdenton, Mo. native finished the afternoon completing 20-of-30 passes for a career-high 299 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran two scores in from just inside the Viking's two-yard line.
Overall this season, DeLaurent has passed for nearly 2,000 yards and 19 touchdowns, while scoring seven times on the ground and racking up 333 rushing yards.
Bell finished the afternoon with eight tackles and recorded a pass breakup, along with a 34-yard interception return for a touchdown. The interception marks his second of the season and the third of his career.
Central currently boasts a 7-2 overall record and a perfect 3-0 mark in Heart South Division play. It marks the first time CMU has tallied seven wins in a season since 1972 when they finished 7-3. The only other seven-plus win campaigns for Central came during the 1949 (8-1), 1930 (9-0), and 1928 (8-2) seasons.
