Taylor and Miles named NAIA Honorable Mention All-Americans

Kansas City, Mo. - After a historic 2021 campaign, the Central Methodist football program garnered two NAIA All-Americans, as seniors Katavious Taylor and Will Miles were recognized as Honorable Mention honorees by the American Football Coaches Association Monday.

Taylor, Central's primary wideout, garnered NAIA All-American honors for the fourth consecutive season, becoming the first football player in program history to be named an NAIA All-American four times. The Memphis, Tenn. native had a remarkable final season with the Eagles, as he hauled in a team-high 52 receptions for 910 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns.

He nearly averaged 100 yards/game and recorded five 100-yard receiving performances. Taylor's best performance of the year came against Missouri Valley College, where he tallied nine catches for 136 yards and three touchdowns on Oct. 30. For his efforts this season, he was also named to the Heart All-Conference First Team for the fourth consecutive season.

He leaves Central Methodist as the program leader in career touchdowns (46), which he set against Evangel on Nov. 13. Taylor also holds program records for single-season receiving yards (1,082 - 2018), and single-game receiving yards (265 - Missouri Valley, 10/20/18).

Miles was tabbed as an NAIA All-American for the first time in his career. The Chicago, Ill. native appeared in all 12 games for the Eagles, tallying 56 total tackles and a team-leading seven sacks. He also finished second on the team with 14 tackles for loss. Overall, Miles recorded three multi-sack games, highlighted by a two-sack, four tackles for loss performance against (RV) Culver-Stockton on Sept. 25.

The 2021 campaign featured a Central team that claimed their first Heart Conference title since 1975 with a 9-3 overall record and a perfect 5-0 mark in Heart South Division play. The nine wins tied for the most victories in school history, with the last nine-win season coming in 1930 (9-0). As the Heart South Division Champion, the Eagles clinched their first-ever berth into the NAIA-FCS playoffs.
