Eagles Fall to Pride in Defensive Stalemate

Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Football program fell in a low scoring affair to Clarke University 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Davis Field.

With the defeat, Central falls to 0-3, while the Pride improve to 2-1.

CMU's defense stood tall to the task against a Pride offense that had averaged 25.5 points through its first two games. CMU forced five Clarke turnovers, including three fumbles and two interceptions.

The lone score of the game came at the 6:34 mark of the third quarter via a 28-yard field goal from Victor Moreno, giving the Pride a 3-0 lead.

CMU had a scoring opportunity midway through the fourth quarter following a strip sack by Cameron Essick at Clarke's five-yard line. However, Clarke's defense held firm and forced a three-and-out. The Eagles were unable to convert on the 22-yard field goal to tie the game.

Lontas Mcclintion led the Central defense with eight total tackles, followed by Davion Stockard with seven.

Stockard also picked up a sack and a fumble recovery as did Joseph Slattery. Erik Mays and Kyjuan Collins each recorded an interception.

Matthew Luna was Central's leading rusher with 44 yards on 11 carries including a long of 25. Andrew Quezada led the recieving core with six catches for 45 yards.

The Eagles head back out on the road for a matchup against Graceland University Saturday, Sept. 17 at 6:00 p.m. in Lamoni, Iowa.
