Central Falls to Missouri Baptist on Homecoming

Central Falls to Missouri Baptist on Homecoming

Fayette, Mo. - The Central Methodist Football program welcomed the Missouri Baptist Spartans for a Heart South Division showdown Saturday afternoon at Davis Field.

Central fell to MBU by a score of 30-14 on Homecoming.

The Eagles started out hot, scoring an opening drive touchdown to take a 7-0 lead over Missouri Baptist. The drive went 75 yards in seven plays and eclipsed just 3:45 off the clock. Junior running back Dawan Lomax capped the drive with a 25 yard rush into the endzone for the score.

MBU responded on the following drive with a 14 play 63 yard drive that chewed up 6:27. Central's offense continued to play well, as the Eagles regained the lead in the second quarter. The Eagles scored quickly as a perfect 40-yard pass from Jordan Gile to Carl Robinson, who found the endzone for the score, giving Central a 14-7 lead.

The Spartans would score right before the half on a one yard rushing touchdown to tie the game at 14-14 entering the halftime break.

Central was unable to recreate its first half success, as the Eagles could not find the endzone in the second. Missouri Baptist on the other hand scored twice and was able to chew up a considerable amount of clock with a strong running game.

The Spartans finished the game with nearly 36 minutes of possession, compared to 24 minutes for the Eagles.

Quarterback Jordan Gile completed 12-of-17 passes for 140 yards and one touchdown, while Brenden Dye and Dylan Holt led the defense with nine tackles. Holt also recorded a sack, a forced fumble, and pass breakup.

The Eagles head into the bye week and will next host No. 3 nationally ranked Grand View University Thursday, Oct. 17 at 6:00 p.m. at Davis Field.
