Fayette, Mo. - With heavy hearts, the No. 18 Central Methodist football program took the field Saturday afternoon against No. 2 Grand View at Davis Field.
The Eagles fell in their home opener to the 2021 NAIA National Championship Runner-Up, by the final score of 51-0.
The Vikings opened the game with 14 first-quarter points, and tacked on 23 in the second quarter to take a 37-0 lead at halftime.
Central's defense improved in the second half, as Grand View scored only twice in the third and fourth quarters, including three turnovers on downs. However, the deficit proved to be too much, as Central would fall to Grand View, 51-0.
Senior linebacker Davion Stockard led the defense with 12 total tackles, followed by Mujahid Camel with nine. Anthony Johnson and Cameron Essick each recorded seven tackles aswell.
On just six carries, Terrell Aldridge averaged 4.3 yards/carry including a long of 23.
The Eagles will next hit the road to square off against Peru State College Saturday, Sept. 3 at 6:00 p.m. in Peru, Neb.
