FAYETTE, Mo. - Central Methodist ran into a tough opponent Saturday, losing 4-0 to Benedictine (Kan.).
Bethany Smith put the Ravens ahead in the 27th minute from eight yards away. The Eagles managed two shots on target in the first half from Shak Salandy and Nicki Noreen but were turned away both times by Benedictine (6-3-2, 1-0) netminder Ashley Holland.
With the score standing at 1-0 in the 58th minute, another Smith goal touched off a 10-minute run that put the game away for good. Jordan Francescon put the Ravens on the board again in the 68th minute, then added her second goal of the match less than 30 seconds later.
Holland made two saves in 71:58 of action.
Central Methodist (6-4, 0-1) goalkeeper Meredith Brick finished the match with five saves in 71:47. Brittany Andert played the final 18:13 in the net, recording one save.
Central Methodist travels to Benedictine-Springfield (Ill.) on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. CT.
