Eagles Cruise Past Graceland Saturday in Lamoni

Lamoni, Iowa - Behind four second half goals, the No. 16 Central Methodist Women's Soccer program cruised past Graceland University by a final score of 6-0 Saturday afternoon in Lamoni, Iowa.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 10-1-2 and 8-0-1 in the Heart of America. Graceland drops to 4-6-3 and 1-5-1 in conference action.

Central got a majority of its production from junior foward Mariana Barreto, who notched her third hat trick of the season with goals in the 35th, 51st, and 57th minutes of play.

Irene Ruiz got the scoring started for the Eagles in the 22nd minute, with the assist coming from Sara Garcia. Pascalle Rodriguez recorded her first goal of the year in the 79th minute, while Beatrice Aime converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute to put the finishing touches on the match.

Junior midfielder Jenna Brouwer finished the afternoon with a pair of assists, while Garcia and Laura Andres each recorded an assist as well.

As a team, Central outshot the Yellowjackets 21-3, and recorded 12 corner kicks compared to just one for Graceland.

CMU currently sits in first place in the Heart of America Regular Season standings with four games to go.

Central remains on the road for a crucial matchup against Benedictine College Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 5:00 p.m. in Atchison, Kansas.
