KANSAS CITY - Lindie Adair's goal in the 58th minute allowed Central Methodist to end Avila's (Mo.) 13-game win streak, and both teams battled to a 1-1 tie after two overtimes.
Avila (13-0-1, 3-0-1) entered Sunday's match as the last team in the nation to be unbeaten and untied, but Adair's second-half goal allowed Central Methodist (7-6-1, 0-3-1) to end the longest win streak in the NAIA this season in the Heart of America Athletic Conference contest at the Zarda Multisport Complex. Along with Avila, Westmont (Calif.) and Concordia (Calif.) remain as the only undefeated teams.
Taylor Geis gave Avila a 1-0 edge in the ninth minute with an assist from Amy Anderson, but Adair answered with her ninth goal of 2013 with the help of Nicki Noreen. Noreen and Adair are now tied for the team lead with nine goals apiece.
Central Methodist goalkeeper Meredith Brick made three saves in 110 minutes.
Avila netminder Stephanie Gartner recorded one save in 110 minutes.
Central Methodist hosts Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) in the final non-conference match of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Kickoff from Davis Field is set for 4 p.m. CT.
