Fayette, Mo. – The Heart of America Athletic Conference announced their first set of weekly awards on Monday, with Central Methodist University women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Ashlynn Freeman (FR/Moberly, Mo.) earning The Heart's Women's Soccer Defender of the Week Award.
"Its big time award for Ashlynn (Freeman)," said CMU head women's soccer coach Dan Schmidlin. "As a freshman coming in to her collegiate career and picking up two clean sheets, that says a lot about the type of player she is and I am very proud of her. This award also says a lot about our team and the direction we are headed in."
Last week, the Eagles played a pair of matches; one at home against Harris-Stowe State University, and one road match at Hannibal-LaGrange University. Freeman started and played the entire 90 minutes each night, while not allowing a single goal. Ashlynn Freeman is a perfect 2-0 to begin her collegiate career, with two shutouts. She faced a total of six shots last week, and made a save on every shot.
CMU returns to action Wednesday, when they host Tabor College at 5pm at Davis Field.
