Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist University women's soccer team continued their dominance to begin the 2016 season on Wednesday evening. The Eagles shutout Tabor College 6-0, moving their streak to three straight shutouts to begin the season. Central has outscored their opponents 20-0 so far this season.
With the victory, Central Methodist moves to 3-0 overall, while Tabor College begins the year at 0-1.
The Eagles wasted no time on Wednesday, jumping on the Blue Jays in the sixth minute on a goal from Nicki Noreen (SR/Bartlett, Ill.) 20 yards out to put CMU up 1-0. Freshman Judith Sainz (FR/Pamplona, Spain) added goals in the 22nd and 24th minutes, to give CMU a 3-0 lead. The Eagles would hold that lead going into halftime.
In the second half, Nicki Noreen scored in the 49th and 57th minute to complete the hat trick. Noreen has now scored five goals on the season, while the freshman Sainz leads CMU with seven goals in three games played.
Reigning Heart of America Athletic Conference defender of the week, freshman goalie Ashlynn Freeman (FR/Moberly, Mo.) finished with her third consecutive clean sheet on Wednesday evening. Freeman moves to 3-0 on the season in net, while not allowing a goal in 270 minutes played.
The Eagles return to action this Sunday, when they travel to Belleville. Illinois to face Lindenwood University – Belleville with a 4pm kick-off.
