Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist University women's soccer team rolled to their sixth straight victory to begin the 2016 season on Tuesday night, defeating the University of St. Mary 9-0 in their final non-conference match of the season.
With the victory, Central Methodist improves to a perfect 6-0, while the University of St. Mary falls to 0-2-1.
The Eagles offense wasted little time on Tuesday evening, jumping out to an early 1-0 lead off the foot of Nicki Noreen (SR/Bartlett, Ill.) in the game's fourth minute. The goal was Noreen's first of her three on the night. Noreen's season total currently sits at nine goals in six games.
In the 19th minute, the CMU offense attacked for the second time, as Kylie Thwing (FR/Troy, Mo.) found the back of the net, making it 2-0 Central. Sarah Entwistle (SR/Winfield, Mo.) would later find Sarah Freiermuth (FR/Blue Springs, Mo.) in the 36th minute, to give the Eagles a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Central Methodist did not take the second half lightly, as the Eagles accounted for six goals in the final frame, to seal the 9-0 victory.
Nicki Noreen scored her second goal of the evening in the 58th minute, followed by a goal from Ivet Lloansi Rodriguez (FR/Sabadell Barcelona, Spain) in the 60th minute. Nicki Noreen capped off her "hat trick" in the 62nd minute, scoring an unassisted goal.
Freshman Judith Sainz (FR/Pamplona, Spain) scored a goal in the 63rd minute; her 10th goal of the season. Rachel Topliss (SO/Walsall, England) then added a tally in the 66th minute, followed by a goal by Sarah Entwistle in the 85th minute to close out the 9-0 victory.
Freshman Ashlynn Freeman (FR/Moberly, Mo.) picked up her sixth win (6-0) of the season. She posted her fifth shutout in just her sixth collegiate game. She now owns a save percentage of .889, allowing just two goals and recording 16 saves.
The Eagles are next in action this Saturday, when they host Graceland University in their first Heart of America Athletic Conference match at 6pm at Davis Field. The men's match will follow at 8:30pm.
