Baldwin City, Kan. – The Central Methodist University women's soccer team fought hard on Wednesday evening, and finished with a 1-1 draw in double-overtime at 17th ranked Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas.
With the tie, Central moves to 9-1-2 overall, and 3-1-2 in The Heart. Baker moves to 8-3-1 overall, and 4-1-1 in The Heart.
"I am super proud of the girls tonight," said CMU head women's soccer coach Dan Schmidlin. "This was a good result for us on the road. We were the stronger team tonight and had a lot of chances. Several girls really stepped up for us, and it was an overall good team effort."
All of the scoring on Wednesday was done in the first 45 minutes of play. Central Methodist struck first, when Nicki Noreen (SR/Bartlett, Ill.) snuck a shot past the Wildcats keeper, to give CMU the 1-0 advantage. With the goal, Noreen became the team leader in goals this season, with 14. Freshman Judith Sainz (FR/Pamplona, Spain) is second on the team, with 13 goals scored.
Baker did not waste much time, as they responded less than seven minutes later. Kady Dieringer found Jenna Lattimer in the 31st minute to tie the contest at 1-1. That score would hold the remainder of the way.
CMU goalkeeper Ashlynn Freeman (FR/Moberly, Mo.) finished with eight saves on nine shots, in 110 minutes of action Wednesday.
Central returns to Fayette this Sunday October 9th, to host William Penn University at 4:30pm. The men's match will precede the women, at 2pm.
