Eagles Comeback To Defeat Mount Mercy

Fayette, Mo. – The Central Methodist University women's soccer team scored three straight goals in the games' final 20 minutes on Saturday to defeat the Mount Mercy University Mustangs by a final of 3-1 at Davis Field on Homecoming and Senior Day.

With the victory, the Eagles improve to 13-3-2 overall, and 7-3-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. With the loss, Mount Mercy falls to 7-11 overall and 2-10 in The Heart.

Saturday's contest featured no scoring in the first half, but both teams were ready to return to the pitch in the second half to attack. Mount Mercy scored first in the second half, just two minutes into the period, Carly Walker found Cally Salter for the games' first goal to give Mount Mercy a 1-0 lead.

A little over 25 minutes later, the Central offense received a spark. Nicki Noreen found Sarah Freiermuth in front of the net to even the match at 1-1.

Nine minutes later, the Eagles offense attacked yet again. This time Kylie Thwing found Taylor Nealy, to give CMU a 2-1 lead; their first of the game.

The scoring would not stop there, as freshman Judith Sainz connected on a pass to Nicki Noreen just six minutes later to put the game away for good. Central would go on to defeat Mount Mercy University 3-1.

CMU freshman goalkeeper Ashlynn Freeman picked up the win in net for the Eagles. Freeman finished with four saves in 90 minutes of action.
