FAYETTE, Mo. — After four weeks away from the friendly confines of Davis Field, the No. 24 ranked Central Methodist women's soccer team looked right at home on Saturday night, racing out to a 3-0 halftime lead en route to a decisive 6-0 victory over William Penn.
"We've been road warriors for way too long, but it's all to prepare us for the big picture at the end," said Head Coach Dan Schmidlin. "You've gotta play a tough road schedule to be prepared for the postseason, but it's nice to be home, for sure."
Anika Kallash (SO/Troy, Mo.) scored the game's first two goals, including the opening goal just one minute into action. Her second goal came off a header, assisted by Michelle Raines (SR/Hawk Point, Mo.).
Central Methodist's final first half-goal came off the foot of Judith Sainz (JR/Pamplona, Spain), set up by a beautiful feed from Rachel Topliss (SR/Walsall, England). Topliss scored a goal of her own in the second half.
Kayla Deaver (FR/Lee's Summit, Mo.) scored the other two goals for the Eagles.
Also picking up assists for the Eagles were Kallash, Sara Cobollo (SO/Madrid, Spain) and Ashleigh Secrest (FR/Allen, Texas).
Ashlynn Freeman (JR/Moberly, Mo.) only recorded one save on the evening, thanks to a stout defensive performance that only conceded four William Penn shots, including none in the first half. Alexis Garlock (FR/Union, Mo. ) also saw action at goalkeeper.
"We played a great soccer match, honestly. The possession was at a high level, we created a lot of chances and scored some nice goals," said Schmidlin. "Everybody got to play and everyone did well with the opportunities that they got."
The Eagles outshot the Statesmen, 26-4, and also held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-1.
Next up for Central Methodist is a trip to Missouri Valley on Oct. 2. Kickoff is set for 5 pm.
