MARSHALL, Mo. – The No. 23 Central Methodist University women's soccer team remained even with the Missouri Valley Vikings in the first half of the road conference match, but found an offensive groove to secure the win.
"I thought we played a very complete 90 minutes today. Missouri Valley is a very tough opponent and a tough place to play at," said Head Coach Dan Schmidlin. "Our girls keep improving each game and every day in training. Now, we have to get ready for a tough game on Saturday."
Kayla Deaver (FR/Lee's Summit, Mo.) was able to get the Eagles on the board to open the second half after 30 seconds of play. Deaver was played a ball down the left side by Andrea Villar (SO/Madrid, Spain) and out ran the defense, putting an angled shot into goal.
Deaver would score again at the 52-minute mark after Rachel Topliss (SR/Walsall, England) played a ball to Anika Kallash (SO/Troy, Mo.), who took it to the end line and cut it back to the near post where Deaver directed it into goal.
The third and final goal of the night came at the 80-minute mark from Judith Sainz (JR/Pamplona, Spain), assisted by Deaver. Ashlynn Freeman (JR/Moberly, Mo.) defended the box for the Eagles, recording five saves in the game.
The win moves Central Methodist to 9-3 on the season and 4-1 in the Heart. Missouri Valley drops to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The Eagles will continue conference play at Baker (Kan.) University on Saturday, October 6th.
